Zareefa Burki Flener is a patent attorney with a focus in the area of biotechnology. In addition, she is experienced in both patent and trademark litigation in both the federal courts and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Zareefa prepares, files and prosecutes a wide variety of biotech related applications worldwide. She has extensive research and scientific experience in two particularly explosive areas: HIV transmission and pathology, and mapping of the human genome. Her Masters project, from Loyola University of Chicago, involved mapping of the distal short arm of human chromosome 21, from the rDNA to the telomere. She is well published in the field of HIV pathology in such journals as the American Journal of Pathology, Clinical Immunology, and the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
Zareefa has also prepared and prosecuted applications in the technology areas of design, mechanical, biochemistry, and medical devices.
