Professional Profile

Richard P. Berg, although he is a Retired Partner, is presently working parttime and is of counsel to the firm. He received his B.S.E.E. from the University of Southern California and his J.D. cum laude from the University of San Diego. Mr. Berg has been practicing domestic and international intellectual property law for over twenty-five years. He is a registered patent attorney before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the California and Texas State Bars. Mr. Berg's specialty is in computer hardware and software technologies, digital and microprocessor electronics, lasers and optical devices, as well as telecommunications and antennae theory. Prior to joining Ladas & Parry, Mr. Berg worked with U.S. Admiral Hyman Rickover in nuclear submarine design and was employed by Texas Instruments and ITT as in-house patent counsel. Mr. Berg has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in digital speech, microprocessor, disk drive technologies, radio frequency devices and antennas, integrated and optical circuits and chip manufacturing technologies. Mr. Berg also handles copyright, trademark and litigation matters. He is a contributing author to the book, Legal Aspects of Introducing Products to the United States Market, and has lectured on United States and foreign intellectual property law to both foreign and domestic audiences. Mr. Berg is a member of AIPLA, ABA, and LAIPLA and regularly travels to Europe and Asia to meet with the firm’s overseas clients.
