The fee for a European Community Trademark filed electronically in up to three classes has been substantially reduced effective May 1, 2009. This includes International registrations designating the European Union.

The requirements to pay a fee on registration has also been abolished for applications filed on or after May 1, 2009 and for applications pending on May 1, 2009, for which the fee has not yet been paid.

This should be a welcome change for trademark owners.
