European Union (EU) - Withdrawal of Proposed Directive for Harmonization of the Law on Utility Models

During 2005, the Commission of the EU carried out a review of pending legislation to screen pending proposals “with regard to their general relevance, their impact on competitiveness, and other effects”. As a result of this review, the Commission gave notice to Parliament that 68 proposed pieces of legislation were to be withdrawn. Among these was the proposed directive for harmonization of the laws in EU countries relating to utility models. As with all of the withdrawn legislation, the Commission noted that it was possible that it might be reintroduced later after reconsideration of the situation.
