Eritrea - Publication of Cautionary Notices
We reported in our Information Letter N.S. 181 that, as a result of Eritrea’s independence from Ethiopia on May 24, 1993, Ethiopian trademark rights were no longer protected in Eritrea. Although the Government has still not provided for the registration of trademarks in Eritrea, or the revalidation of former Ethiopian rights, we have been advised that the Government of Eritrea is now permitting the publication of Cautionary Notices. Even though there are no official rules or regulations governing this publication, it is believed that published Cautionary Notices may be helpful to trademark owners who need to pursue criminal or civil action against infringers. |
