European Patent Convention (EPC) - New Members

The following countries have joined the European Patent Convention on the dates set out below:

Hungary
January 1, 2003
Romania
March 1, 2003
Slovenia
December 1, 2002

For countries such as Romania and Slovenia that were previously part of the extension scheme under which European patents could be extended to their countries without them being full members of the Convention but which have since become full members of the EPC, the rules relating to extension will continue in effect for applications filed before the date of full membership, or in the case of applications filed under the PCT, to European applications arising from international applications filed before the date on which the EPC became effective for the country in question.
