Kazakhstan - New Intellectual Property Customs Regulations Kazakhstan significantly amended its customs
regulations regarding goods “containing objects of intellectual property”
allowing for th expedited seizure and disposal of counterfeit items. This
law has been implemented subsequently by the introduction of a “Register of
the Goods Containing Intellectual Property Items of the Republican Customs Committee.”

Under the new procedures, the owner of an intellectual property right may
record such right on the Register. The Customs authorities are authorized to seize
goods then promptly notify the intellectual property owner and the owner of the seized
goods. The seized goods will be released unless the intellectual property owner timely
brings suit in criminal court proceedings.
