United Kingdom - New Regulations Introduced Requiring Genetically Modified Ingredients to be Identified

Under the Food Labelling (Amendment) Regulations 1999, foods are required to indicate on their packaging details of genetically modified ingredients. Failure to do so will incur substantial penalties. Where food is not prepackaged or is sold directly to consumers the particulars of the ingredients can be provided on a menu, notice, ticket or label, provided they are made obvious to the consumer and as long as a member of the staff can provide further information if required.
