Tanzania - Joins the Banjul Protocol on Marks

Tanzania became a party to the Banjul Protocol on Marks of the African Regional Industrial Property Organization (1993) (ARIPO) on September 1, 1999. As a result, as of that date it has become possible to designate Tanzania on ARIPO trademark applications. However, we are advised that such designations will only have effect in Tanganyika, and not in Zanzibar, since there are still separate trademark registration systems in the territories of these two republics that joined to form Tanzania.
