United States - Protection of Boat Hull Designs As noted in our March 1999 Newsletter (N.S. 190), the legislation passed at the end of the last Congress provided for a new form of intellectual property protection for boat hull designs by registration with the United States Copyright Office. The Copyright Office has now issued interim regulations to implement the new law and began accepting applications for protection under it on July 1, 1999. Applications for protection require submission of either drawings or photographs of the design for which protection is sought.
