Spain - Trademark Law Treaty Implementation

The Spanish Congress has approved Implementing Law 14/1999, which entered into force on May 6, 1999, to implement the Trademark Law Treaty in Spain. The principal change effected by the new law substitutes the payment of registration and renewal taxes for the previous system of quinquennial tax payments. Therefore, the payment of quinquennial taxes has been abolished for those trademark, tradename and title of establishment applications, whose decision of grant was published after May 6, 1999, and for trademark, tradename and title of establishment registrations, whose renewal applications were due after May 6, 1999.
