Russia - Supreme Patent Chamber Established

On April 24, 1998, the long-awaited Supreme Patent Chamber was established and began accepting cases. The Chamber has jurisdiction under the Russian Patent Law and the Law on Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin, with respect to the following areas:

1. appeals on decisions of the Appeals Chamber of the Patent Office;

2. compulsory patent license matters;

3. cancellation proceedings with respect to collective marks and trademarks; and

4. declarations granting well-known status to trademarks in accordance with Article 6bis of the Paris Convention.
