India joined the Paris Convention and the Patent Cooperation Treaty, effective December 7, 1998. The Indian Prime Minister's office has announced that it is the government's intention to amend the patent law to provide protection for drugs and agricultural chemicals and to consolidate all patent office functions in New Delhi.
