Oman - New Copyright Law Oman has adopted a copyright law which will provide for a period
of protection up to fifty years after the death of the author
for a wide variety of "original works of art in literature, science,
arts and culture in general". A shorter period of protection expiring
twenty-five years after publication is provided for movies, applied
art works, photographs, works published under a pseudonym or after
the death of the author and works of art "belonging to public
or private bodies". Protection is specifically stated to be provided
for, inter alia, computer programs, works delivered orally and works of choreography.
The law provides for a substantial number of situations in which
use of a copyrighted work, for example, in education and by the
news media will not be regarded as infringements.
