Russia - New Penal Code Provides Stricter Penalties for Misuse of Trademarks, Appellations of Origin and False Marking

On June 13, 1996, a new Penal Code was enacted in Russia that contains stricter penalties for the illegal use of registered trademarks, service marks, and appellations of origin, or the use of false marking indicating that an unregistered mark is registered in Russia, where such acts have occurred repeatedly or have caused substantial damage. The new Penal Code entered into effect on January 1, 1997.
