On March 12, 1997, Mongolia deposited its instrument of accession to the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, which entered into effect with respect to Mongolia on June 12, 1997. It should be noted that in depositing its instrument of accession, Mongolia took advantage of a number of possible reservations permitted by the Convention.
Mongolia has also joined the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs, with effect from April 12, 1997. The effect of this is that an international design application filed after that date may now extend to Mongolia. It will be recalled that use of this convention is confined to parties that are nationals of member states and that the United States is not a member of the Hague Design Convention. However, advantage of the convention may be taken by subsidiaries of U.S. corporations resident in a country which is a member of the convention.
