EU/EPO - Commission Announces Study of Certain Aspects of European Patent Law

In the context of improving innovation within the European Union, the European Commission has announced that it is undertaking a study of certain aspects of European patent law and practice. Among the issues being studied are the costs of applying for and maintaining patent rights in Europe, the problems arising from failure to bring the Community Patent Convention into effect so as to provide for uniformity of interpretation of European Patents and the question of what should be protectible by patents in the field of computer software.
