Chile - International Treaty with Mercosur Countries

The Chilean Senate has approved a new international treaty between Chile and the countries comprising the MERCOSUR (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) that entered into effect in Chile on October 4, 1996. Although Chile has not yet adhered to the MERCOSUR Agreement, the international treaty adopts many of its provisions, including a provision that intellectual property issues between the parties will be governed by the TRIPS provisions of the WTO Agreement.
