Effective January 17, 1996, the United States Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control suspended most of the existing U.S. economic sanctions against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro), including those relating to the transaction of intellectual property matters. However, the lifting of sanctions does not have retroactive effect in all cases.
