Trademark Law Treaty to Enter into Force

As reported in our November 1994 Newsletter (N.S. 184), the Trademark Law Treaty was signed at the Diplomatic Conference in Geneva on October 28, 1994, by thirty-five countries, with the provision that it would enter into force three months following the date on which it was ratified by at least five countries. As of May 1, 1996, Moldova, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom have deposited their instruments of ratification or accession to the treaty and, therefore, the treaty became effective on August 1, 1996.
