Tanganyika - Service Mark Applications Now Being Accepted Under Trademark Law

As reported in our November 1994 Newsletter (N.S. 184), the Trade & Service Marks Act of 1986 entered into force on September 1, 1994, in Tanganyika. Although the Act is not yet in operation, pending the publication of implementing regulations, we have been advised that at least one provision of the Act, namely, the possibility of registering service marks, has been implemented. Applications for the registration of service marks are now being accepted by the Registrar, but such applications will not be advertised until the implementing regulations are published in the Official Gazette.
