Finland - Types of Invention Protected by Utility Models Expanded

The Finnish Utility Model Law has been amended with effect from January 1, 1996, to broaden the categories of inventions that may be protected by a utility model to include almost any technical solution that can be used industrially. However, methods, plant varieties and animal breeds are still not protectible. Additionally the term of protection is extended to a maximum of 10 years.
