On February 23, 1996, the Government of Canada deposited its
instrument of accession to Articles 1 to 12 (i.e., the substantive
provisions) of the Stockholm Revision (1967) of the Paris
Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property. Previously
Canada had been bound only by the London (1934) text. The
articles entered into force with respect to Canada on May 26,
1996. As a practical matter Canadian law was already in general
conformity with these articles, any necessary revisions having
been made as a result of the NAFTA and GATT-TRIPS agreements.
