Turkmenistan - Revalidation of Former USSR Trademark Rights

In our November 1994 Newsletter we advised that Turkmenistan, in addition to accepting new trademark applications, was accepting applications to revalidate former USSR trademark registrations which were in effect prior to October 1, 1993. We have now been advised that former USSR trademark applications, which were filed prior to October 17, 1992, are eligible for revalidation in Turkmenistan. The term within which revalidation applications must be filed will expire on:

December 31, 1995.

The Turkmenistan authorities have also indicated that, although they are contemplating possible continued adherence to the Madrid Agreement, it is currently possible for holders of International Registrations, which had been extended to the former USSR prior to December 25, 1991, to file a request before

December 31, 1995

to register the mark in the Turkmenistan Trademark Register.
