We reported in our April 1995 Newsletter that Sweden had joined Spain in ratifying the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks. On April 6, 1995 the United Kingdom also ratified the Protocol, and we have been advised that the People's Republic of China deposited its instrument of ratification to the Protocol on September 1, 1995. As a result, the Protocol will enter into effect three months after the fourth ratification was received, namely, on December 1, 1995. However, it is not anticipated that the Protocol will be operative until the spring of 1996, since the implementing regulations must still be finalized and adopted.
