France - Oppositions under New Trademark Law

In our Information Letter N.S. 182, we advised that an opposition procedure under the new Trademark Law was introduced on a limited and gradual basis, allowing oppositions only against applications filed in certain classes. According to a Ministerial Order dated December 9, 1994 and published in the Official Gazette of January 3, 1995, applications filed from February 1, 1995 in Classes 4, 7, 11, 12, 14, 18, 28 and 34, as well as applications filed from July 1, 1995 in Classes 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33, may be opposed. These classes are in addition to Classes 2, 6, 8, 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27, applications for which were previously subject to opposition.
