It has been reported to us that the Trade & Service Marks Act, 1986 entered into force on September 1, 1994 in Tanganyika, which continues to maintain a separate trademark system, despite its union with Zanzibar in 1964 to form the United Republic of Tanzania. However, applications may not be filed under the new Act until the implementing Regulations are published and we shall defer our analysis of the provisions of the new Act until that time.
