United States and European Union - Agreement on Nomenclature for Distilled Spirits

The European Union and the United States have reached an agreement whereby each would recognize that certain designations of distilled spirits should be confined to goods of a specific origin. Under the agreement use in Europe of the terms "Bourbon" and 'Tennessee Whiskey" will be confined to spirits originating from the United States and use in the United States of the terms "Irish Whiskey, Scotch Whisky, Cognac, Armangac, Calvados and Brandied Jerez" will be confined to goods of European origin.
