Patent Cooperation Treaty - ARIPO Designation

With Kenya's adherence to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), the number of members of the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) that are members of PCT has increased to three (the others are Sudan and Malawi). Consequently, it has been provided that with effect from July 1, 1994, it will be possible to make a single designation of ARIPO when making a PCT filing. Such a designation will, of course, cover only those three countries that are members of both PCT and ARIPO. If protection for other ARIPO member countries is desired, a separate ARIPO application, or where appropriate, national applications, must still be filed.
